Last week I had the privilege to attend the Guild of Photographer’s awards weekend and dinner. The Guild of Photographer comprises both professional and amateur photographers, and is one of the larger photography bodies representing the professional market. As a member of the Guild you are strongly encouraged to develop your photographic abilities through their mentoring programme and qualifications, and push yourself through their monthly competition. However, what marks the Guild out as unique is the way in which they seek to encourage everyone and help individuals become all that they can be. This aim is reflected within the membership where you will find some of the most caring and compassionate individuals within the photography world.
The awards weekend is always a friendly occasion. Held at the Hilton, good conversation, laughter, food and drink flow freely. The awards dinner, celebrates the very best photographers in various genres and the work created is truly stunning. They also present some special recognition awards, for people who have made a special contribution to the photography world. I was moved to tears by the standing ovation when I unexpectedly hear my name read out, and be asked to come forward to the stage to receive an award for my work in photography and wellbeing. I have transcribed the short speech given by Steve, one of the Guild’s directors, below.
If you want to develop you photography skills, I cannot recommend a better place to achieve this than through the Guild of Photographers. I feel blessed to be a member and ambassador for them, and am truly humbled by this award. If you want to learn more or join, then details are at this link: Join the Guild of Photographers.
A big thank you to Sam, Samantha Jayne Photography for the official pictures
